How to Develop a Comprehensive School Counseling Program That Will Make a Difference for Your Students

This training is created for school counselors who want to create or enhance a comprehensive school counseling program that positively impacts student outcomes. Participants will learn how to design, implement, and sustain a school counseling program that addresses academic, social-emotional, and career/college activities for all students. By the end of this training, participants will have a clear roadmap for building a program that meets the needs of their students, aligns with national and state standards, and fosters a supportive school environment. Participants will leave the training with a personal action plan focused on building a comprehensive program that they will commit to completing in both the short and long term.

Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1.      Understand the Framework: Learn the components of a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA National/MA Model and other relevant frameworks.

2.      Conduct Needs Assessments: Use data-driven methods to assess student needs and identify program goals that will make a tangible impact.

3.      Design an Inclusive Program Plan: Create/update a school counseling program that addresses the diverse needs of all students, with a focus on equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

4.      Begin to Develop the Plan: Begin to map out a structured, year-long plan that incorporates academic, social-emotional, and career development.

5.      Implement and Integrate with School-Wide Initiatives: Learn how to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the program is seamlessly integrated into the school environment.

6.      How to Crosswalk: Crosswalk the planned program with national and state school counseling standards and other frameworks to ensure that the program is highly effective and impactful.

7.      Assess and Improve the Program: Develop systems for evaluating the effectiveness of the counseling program and making adjustments for continuous improvement.
