School Counselors Using Data to Improve Student Achievement and School Climate
Got data? Do you know what to do with it? Is it helping improve student achievement and making your school a nicer, safer place? This training is designed to equip school counselors with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively use data to enhance student achievement and improve the overall school climate. The session will cover the various types of data counselors can use, how to interpret this data, and strategies for applying data-driven insights in their daily work with students, faculty, and administrators. Depending on the length of the training (3 hours vs. 6 hours), time will also be devoted to analyzing the school specific data that is readily available and creating an action plan about what to do with that data. Participants will also leave with a personal action plan focused on data that they will commit to completing in the short and long term.
Objectives:

1. Understand Key Data Types: Identify and understand the different types of data that influence student achievement (e.g., academic performance, attendance, behavioral data, socio-emotional factors).
2. Analyze and Interpret Data: Learn how to analyze and interpret both publicly and internal only data to identify patterns, trends, and areas of concern.
3. Use Data to Drive Decisions: Apply data to make informed decisions about interventions and support strategies for student success.
4. Improve School Climate: Use data to assess and improve the school climate, focusing on factors such as bullying, student engagement, and overall well-being.
5. Collaborate and Communicate: Develop skills for effectively communicating data-driven findings to school staff, families, and students in a way that fosters collaboration and positive change.
