Got Attendance Issues?  Leveraging School Counselors to Improve Attendance Rates

This training is designed to help school counselors play a pivotal role in improving student attendance rates. Poor attendance can significantly impact academic achievement, student well-being, school climate and graduation and promotion rates. By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with strategies and tools to identify, address, and reduce chronic absenteeism. This training will focus on using data, understanding root causes, and collaborating with school staff and families to develop targeted interventions that can make a lasting impact on student attendance. Participants will leave the training with a personal action plan focused on attendance that they will commit to completing in both the short and long term.

Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1.      Understand the Impact of Attendance on Student Success: Recognize the correlation between attendance, academic performance, and overall student outcomes.

2.      Analyze Attendance Data: Learn how to track, analyze, and interpret attendance patterns to identify at-risk students.

3.      Identify Root Causes of Chronic Absenteeism: Explore the multiple factors contributing to absenteeism, including academic, social-emotional, and family-related issues.

4.      Develop Effective Interventions: Create and implement strategies that address the root causes of absenteeism, tailored to the needs of individual students and groups.

5.      Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with administrators, teachers, families, and community partners to develop a coordinated, school-wide approach to improve attendance.
