Central Massachusetts Association of School Counselors

Our History:

The oldest professional guidance association affiliate, W.C.P.G.A.- Worcester County Personnel and Guidance Association, was originally founded in 1935, which predates the founding of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association which was founded in 1961.

The key to our success can be attributed to the quality professional development and networking opportunities we provide for school counselors in Worcester County. Our organization holds an average of four dinner meetings throughout the school year. Each meeting has a speaker on a topic of interest to school counselors and related school personnel. Each dinner is hosted by a college, university, or educational organization and a representative of the host institution usually gives a short presentation about their school.

Today:

As the roles and titles of school counselors have changed, guidance counselors are no longer the only title for counselors working in schools.   Being aware and mindful of these changes the members of the W.C.P.G.A. found we needed to change with those times.  As of April 25, 2024 our new association name is Central Massachusetts Association of School Counselors (CMASC).

CMASC will continue to be a non-profit association whose purpose is to schedule meetings and/or seminars and disseminate information for professional development of its members, which may now include not only guidance counselors, but school counselors, adjustment counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, directors of guidance/ counselors,   and individuals interested in promoting quality comprehensive school counseling services throughout Worcester County.
