Mapping Your School Counseling Curriculum: Yes it Can Be Done

This training is designed to show school counselors how to develop and map out a comprehensive, structured, and effective school counseling curriculum that aligns with the needs of students and meets district and state standards. By the end of this session, counselors will have started to create a whole school or grade level counseling curriculum that enhances student achievement, promotes social-emotional learning (SEL), and supports the overall school climate.  Participants will leave the training with a personal action plan focused on curriculum mapping that they will commit to completing in both the short and long term.

Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1.      Understand the Importance of a Counseling Curriculum: Recognize the value of having a clear and intentional school counseling curriculum and how it impacts student development.

2.      Identify Key Components: Learn the essential elements that should be included in a comprehensive school counseling curriculum.

3.      Align with Standards and Goals: Understand how to align their curriculum with state and national standards, as well as school-specific goals and student needs.

4.      Begin to Create a Map of the Curriculum: Develop a visual representation (curriculum map) that outlines the topics, objectives, and outcomes for each grade level and developmental stage.

5.      Design Impactful Lessons and Activities: Learn how to design age-appropriate, engaging, and effective lessons and activities that can be integrated into classroom, grade or school-wide settings.

6.      Implement and Assess the Curriculum: Develop strategies for rolling out the curriculum school-wide and assessing its effectiveness in supporting student success.
