A Welcome from

MASCA Board Chair

2024-2025

Bonjou tout moun! (Haitian Creole for Hello everyone!)

Can you believe that we are already at the start of the 2024-2025 academic year?

I am truly honored to serve as MASCA’s Board Chair this year and ready to collaborate with each of you as we continue our mission of supporting and advocating for school counselors in the Commonwealth.  This past year, we witnessed many nationwide & global issues that remind us that more than ever, school counselors need to be supported and provided learning opportunities and resources to lead in their school communities.

As I reflect on last year’s work in MASCA, some key moments stand out:

  • The MASCA “Summer Camp”, an amazing summer professional development opportunity, was named a finalist for the ASCA Pinnacle Award.
  • We came together to recognize and honor our colleague and friend, Dana Catarius.
  • Our membership saw its highest numbers in conference history.
  • We launched the Counselors of Color & LGBTQ Affinity Groups.

A few members of the MASCA Board of Directors attended the ASCA Annual Conference this summer in Kansas City, where we were able to connect with school counselors and leaders from across the nation [and world!], while attending sessions that allowed us to learn about best practices and resources to improve the work in our profession. In August, the board will reconvene at the MASCA Leadership Development Institute, where our focus will be on revisiting our mission and core values, while strengthening our strategic plan.

We encourage you to actively engage in MASCA initiatives and build connections that strengthen our collective impact.  Follow us on all of our social media platforms to learn about the ongoing work and advocacy for our membership:

Together, we all can make a difference in the lives of the students and communities we serve.

I am looking forward to working with you all this year.
