Massachusetts school counselors and school adjustment counselors have an important new resource for understanding and documenting their professional practice: the newly released Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) evaluation rubrics specifically designed for these roles.
This interactive training will provide school counselors and school adjustment counselors with an opportunity to unpack, understand, and apply the new evaluation rubrics to their day-to-day practice. Participants will explore the structure, language, and expectations of the rubrics and examine how the standards connect to comprehensive school counseling and school adjustment counseling practices. Timelines, artifacts used for evidence and best practices will be discussed and exemplars will be shared.
Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Become familiar with the new DESE evaluation rubrics and understand their purpose, structure, and key components.
- Examine the standards, indicators, and elements within the rubrics and clarify what they mean for school counselors and school adjustment counselors.
- Connect rubric expectations to everyday practice, including counseling services, student support, collaboration, consultation, prevention, responsive services, and program development.
- Explore evidence and artifacts that can demonstrate professional practice and progress within the evaluation process.
- Identify ways to use data to document impact and support conversations with evaluators.
- Reflect on current practice and identify areas of strength and opportunities for professional growth.
- Develop an action plan for using the new rubrics as a tool for ongoing professional learning, goal setting, and evaluation preparation.
